1st International Macauba Congress: A Remarkable Milestone



From October 23rd to 25th, the 1st International Macauba Congress, organized by the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas (IAC), brought together a vibrant community of students, researchers, scientists, industry professionals, and thought leaders in Campinas, Brazil.


Over the three days, attendees engaged in discussions, hands-on workshops, innovative product demonstrations, and keynote presentations showcasing the latest scientific and industrial advancements in the macauba value chain.


The Acroalliance consortium proudly participated, among other activities like keynotes and discussion panels, with a collaborative stand co-hosted with the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). The stand provided attendees with an up-close view of the macauba palm, its processed components, and oil samples, underscoring the vast potential of this remarkable crop.

A highlight of the congress was the launch of a groundbreaking book on macauba, authored by Dr. Thomas Hilger (University of Hohenheim) and Dr. Sérgio Motoike (UFV), marking a significant step forward in knowledge-sharing.


The book aims to collect in a compact format the most up to date macauba information. it is sure to be a state-of-the art resource for future macauba research. The book is currently only available in Portuguese, but plans to release an english version are already underway, so keep an eye out for more information!



The event also featured a vibrant poster session with over 100 research presentations by students and scientists worldwide. Additionally, esteemed experts from the University of Hohenheim, including Dr. Thomas Hilger, Ricardo Vargas-Carpintero, and Prof. Iris Lewandowski, enriched the congress with panel discussions and insightful keynote presentations, both in-person and online.


To wrap up the event, the Acroalliance consortium hosted an open "World Café" workshop, fostering collaboration among stakeholders to identify opportunities and key focus areas within the macauba value chain. As the congress concluded, discussions about the next edition began, and we are already looking forward to participating in what promises to be another transformative gathering.
